For a person that just found out she has a 90 average for her first term at college in almost six years, I'm bummed out. Today is one of my High days (read: Holy days) but I'm not celebrating because I have too much to do to prepare for celebrating the same purpose of the holiday but on someone else's schedule. That bugs the hell out of me. I can't celebrate Solstice because I'm too busy preparing for Christmas, which I don't celebrate for any religious purpose.
This makes no sense to me.
But, there it is. Too busy. This weekend is going to be utter hell, and I don't know if I'm going to enjoy the holidays at all. See, I can't deny that we are actually in a position to celebrate both my family's celebrations (which I refuse to ever miss because they are usually my happiest time) and my mate's family celebration (which is held on the 26th). Usually, my mate is working the 26th, and this year he has it off, despite that he would normally work it. We also just bought a new car, which means that technically there are no transportation issues as would normally hold us back (not having a car trustworthy enough to make the drive in winter with two kids in the car).
His family celebrates this as a religious holiday, whereas my family celebrates it for a happy family time. They are also four hours away. Since my mate has to work on the 27th, this means going up way before dawn on the 26th (technically cutting short my 25th as I'll need to get sleep), napping there, eating dinner, then leaving right away after before gifts because they always eat rather late, and I don't want to be driving ALL night long.
And that's all assuming I don't run into either weather or traffic...grah. This sucks. _________________ Moral convictions of the Marquis De Sade.

It's certainly a Hella busy time of year for everyone who celebrates family, Holy days or whatever. I mean, in addition to doing all the stuff you normally do all year -- raising kids, keeping a house, working a job, etc. Now, you have to decorate, wrap gifts, travel? -- YAAAHHH!
And if you're in school to boot, then that little bit of "me" time you had once a week has gone out with the first snow fall.
Yikers! But keep your head up, I like whiny, complaining, busy people. Hah!
Cheers.
